Green Puppies

I call them “green puppies” because I live a green lifestyle and so my animals are not exposed unnecessarily to any toxins.

My lawns never have any toxic substances, pesticides or chemicals applied. My garden is organic. I spray my dog yard with a natural herb and spice product for flea and tick prevention. I clean with Dawn Botanicals dish soap, essential oils and vinegar. I bathe the dogs and puppies with all natural products. My water is double filtered so the puppies always have the purest water available.

Puppies are wormed with pyrantel pamoate at ages 2, 3, and 4 weeks, fenbendazole at 6 weeks, then pyrantel pamoate at 8 and 10 weeks. These are two very safe options for parasite control. The pups go to their new homes with a negative fecal test from the vet.

The vaccine I use is Vanguard Plus5 which is thimerosal free. The puppies are vaccinated at age 7 weeks, rather than 5 or 6 weeks as many breeders do. They get their early immunity from the colostrum and their mother’s milk, so I make sure that mom is always kept up to date with her vaccination and then as long as the pups are still nursing, they are still getting immunity from mom. I wean them gradually, starting at age 5 weeks and finishing at 7 weeks when they get their first shots. None of my puppies has ever had parvovirus or distemper, so I have confidence in my method. By allowing a bit more time for the babies to mature before vaccination, they are able to handle it much better and I have never had a puppy get a reaction with this schedule. The pups are also mentally and emotionally healthier from having the extra time with mom.

In addition to what the puppies are NOT exposed to, an important factor in their well being is what they ARE exposed to. I have a double pen system off the side of my home with a pebbled clean yard which never gets muddy and a bigger exercise and play yard for when it isn’t raining. I had a playground built for the pups. The playground has a ramp, a platform and a slide. Nothing is more fun than grandchildren and puppies playing together.

Now that you have seen the video, are they “green puppies” or “purple puppies”?
