Temperament Testing

Doodledawgs puppies are temperament tested at age 7 weeks exactly. I use a temperament test that I devised which is similar to the popular Volhardt temperament test. My reasons for the changes are because the Volhardt test was designed for testing pups that would be guide dogs for the blind. The perfect pet does not have the same requirements as a seeing eye dog. I was more concerned with which pups would be calmer or higher energy, which ones would make a good therapy dog or a great dog for a family with children.

At the time that I devised the temperament test I was studying Canine Social and Psychological Development through APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers). I used what I was learning in the class to design a test that would be a good fit for dogs that would ultimately be companion dogs, family dogs or therapy dogs. The test has proven very helpful.
